About the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Our skilled staff of board-certified critical care physicians and specially trained nurses care for more than 1,000 patient each year in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Our role centers around providing state-of-the-art respiratory and heart pressure/flow management of critically ill children, as well as children recovering from complex heart procedures and organ transplants. We are available around the clock to monitor your child's condition, so you can rest assured that your child is getting the care he or she needs.
Transitional Care Unit
As your child's condition improves, you may be transferred to our Transitional Care Unit (TCU). This unit provides comprehensive, coordinated care for our patients with medically complex conditions.
Family-Centered Care
We understand that a stay in the PICU is stressful for your child - and your family. Our PICU features 13 private and 3 semi-private rooms. To make this time a little easier, you are welcome to stay in the room with your child. In addition, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital offers a variety of services to support you while you are here, including the Ronald McDonald room, parent support groups, pastoral care, our Footprints Program, Child Life Services, and music therapy.
You can trust that the critical care team at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital has the expertise to handle the urgent decisions required in life-threatening situations. That experience, combined with our commitment to providing care with compassion, helps ensure the best possible outcomes for our young patients.
