Your child may be referred to the Marfan clinic by his or her primary care doctor when your child shows signs of Marfan syndrome or other related disorders (e.g., Loeys-Dietz syndrome and familial thoracic aortic aneurysm dissection) or when there is a family history of Marfan syndrome.
During a visit to the Marfan clinic, your child will be seen by specialists in:
- Medical genetics
- Genetic counseling
- Pediatric cardiology
During your visit, our team will perform a genetic evaluation, which includes obtaining detailed family and medical histories, and perform a thorough physical examination, including an echocardiogram and EKG, if indicated. Additional evaluations and testing may be recommended.
Once the evaluation and physical are complete, our genetic counselor will explain your child’s diagnosis and what it means for the future, including recommendations for follow-up care and the likelihood that the diagnosis is a risk for others in the family.
The clinic is held from 8 am - 12 pm on the first Friday of each month in the Dallas Heart Center at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
